General Discussion • Re: Rainmeter in Numbers (Statistics)

DA normally doesn't like my VPN so I can't usually browse there (has gotten better lately), so that's interesting to see the numbers of it and which skins are downloaded.

On the Google trends data, the earlier 2008-2009 jump and start in the increase in popularity makes sense. Windows XP was released in 2001, and had system requirements like a 233 MHz processor and 64 MB of memory. Somewhat with Vista but mainly with Windows 7 is when "giga-" was a more mainstream thing (minimum 1 GB processor and 1 GB memory): "What is this giga thing? Does my system have enough of this and that thing?". Also just visually, Vista/Win7 was the introduction of Aero and a public nudge of "my Windows computer can have some style to it". That is a perfect combination for something like Rainmeter.

Also on the Github download data: about 10 million downloads for Rainmeter in 2024 combined, where Windows Terminal had about 7 million for 2024 (Powertoys is up at about 35 million for 2024, but has its' prominent "Update available" bar). Different userbases and purposes of course but is something to see.
